Why crab is haram

According to the Hanafi fiqh only fish is lawful among sea animals, while all other sea animals and insects are unlawful. Crab is also unlawful according to Hanafi fiqh. Almighty Allah says in the holy Quran:. Prohibited for you are: carrion, blood and the flesh of swine. The holy Quran makes no differentiation between terrestrial and nautical animals. The types of dead animals are fish and locusts. While crab, frog and snake all these are impure things, hence Almighty Allah declared them unlawful.

The holy Quran says:. And he makes unlawful for them impure things. This oil is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and very beneficial for brain, heart and nervous system. Is it Halal to consume such oil? Is Seal Meat Halal? The animal may be zabiha,non-zabiha or even pig.

The Hanafi scholars say it is Makruh. Squid and Octopus are sea creatures and Allah has made everything from the sea that is not harmful halal. Only cud chewing animals like cattle, deer, sheep, goats, and antelope are some examples of animals that are halal lawful and some lizards, only if they are slaughtered in the name of Allah.

According to Jewish dietary laws all reptiles and amphibians are considered unclean animals. Therefore, frog legs are not kosher, and are forbidden to observant Jews.

Frog meat is considered as haraam non-halal according to mainstream Islamic dietary laws. According to Islamic literature, the Prophet has eaten grasshoppers, which belong to the same family as crickets; therefore, crickets are Halal. In Islam, it is not haram for you to kill insects if they are pests, affect your home, or have the potential to cause harm to you or others.

Hanafi Ruling on Eating Insects The Hanafi school of thought says that some insects are permissible for consumption and include those that are from the locusts and grasshopper species. Despite the bad reputation Hollywood monster movies have given to sharks. Sharks do not eat humans as part of their normal diet.

According to the National Ocean Service, sharks only attack humans when they are confused or curious. They do not feed or prey on humans. The normal diet of a shark is smaller fish and invertebrates found in the ocean, not human beings. If a shark happened to take a bite off a wandering human in the ocean this would still not make the shark haram to eat. Such rare anomalies do not have any impact on sharia rulings. Allah is Al-Khaliq the Creator of everything. He created sharks and they have been around for millions of years.

But Allah remains silent on this issue. The default ruling on anything which Allah remains silent about is that it is halal. This is based on the words of the Prophet peace be upon him himself. And He has set limits, so do not overstep them. And He has forbidden some things, so do not violate them. And He has remained silent about some things, out of compassion for you, not forgetfulness — so do not seek after them.

Shellfish are aquatic shelled fish often categorized as mollusc or crustaceans. Prawns, Crabs, Shrimps, Lobsters and Oysters are all examples of shellfish.

Majority of the scholars of Islam consider all types of shellfish to be halal. Three out of the four schools of thought in Sunni Islam consider shellfish to be halal. The Hanafi school of thought is the only exception. They consider all shellfish to be Makruh detestable. The Hanafi scholars say it is Makruh.

Squid, Octopus and Calamari are sea creatures and Allah has made everything from the sea that is not harmful halal. Besides the exceptions named. Calamari, octopus and squid are not named in this exception. So majority of the scholars are of the opinion that octopus, calamari and squid are all halal seafood. Majority of the scholars of Islam consider crocodiles and alligators to be haram.

This is because crocodiles and alligators are predators with fangs. And they also spend time on land not only water. The Maliki school of thought is the only school that considers crocodiles to be halal. According to him crocodiles are halal. Majority of the scholars of Islam consider sea turtles as a seafood that is halal. They state that the turtle must be slaughtered in an Islamic manner Zabiha for it to be halal. This is because unlike fish and crab; turtles have blood flowing through their bodies.

Turtles also come on land to lay eggs. So because turtles spend time on land and have blood the ruling of land animals would apply to them. The evidence for frogs being haram is that the Prophet of Allah peace be upon him commanded us not to kill them.

So because they are forbidden for us to kill they are also haram for us to eat them.
